White week with native English teachers
Ski + English: sports and learning, a perfect combination
The White Week is one of the most common after-school winter activities in schools with departures that normally vary between 3 and 6 days.
GMR Summer Camps has become since 2009 the first company in Spain that offers, in addition to its facilities to make standard White Weeks, a different type of White Week. With English teachers who will complement the ski lessons, with seminars in English about the snow activities to be carried out and going to the ski resorts later.
There is no doubt that the campers could become great ski instructors in the future and that they learn the vocabulary and expressions used in ski resorts around the world, where the language of communication is English, It can be a great advantage for them, in addition to continuing to learn English with a general character in their coexistence of several days with our group of native teachers and with the monitors.
The teachers that we select for this activity are all graduates in TEFL as always, but they will also be of an adequate level in skiing. They are not the ski teachers, so the ski lessons are at the mercy of the snow professionals, but what they will do thanks to their knowledge of this sport and their quality as teachers, is to organize every afternoon small seminars (class type) where they will teach the students everything related to skiing that they will put into practice the next day with their teachers. In the afternoon and before starting the other recreational activities of the day that we offer in our facilities, a brief review of what has been learned during the day will be done and the new concepts will be taught for the next day.
The facilities will also be available to schools or agencies and institutions that wish to organize their own programs.
Stations where we ski
San Isidro
It is 52 Kilometers exactly from our facilities in Robledo de Fenar, which means that the journey takes less than 45 minutes to spend the whole day at the station.
The station has 27 skiable kilometers on 25 tracks for skiing and snowboarding (4 greens, 8 blues, 11 reds and 2 blacks) as well as five off-piste routes and non-marked bottom circuit.
The tracks and lifts are divided into four sectors, Cebolledo, Requejines, Riopinos and Salencias - La Raya, perfectly connected to each other and, depending on the area, the skier has the possibility to choose one or the other According to your level of skiing, it is initiation, medium or high.
The station has 53 cannons of artificial snow in the area of ??Cebolledo, thanks to which the ski courses for children and young people, who also usually have basic or initiation levels, are guaranteed during the white weeks that are Organize in our facilities.
Valgrande-Pajares
Just 32 Kilometers away on the road to Asturias, you can reach this station in only 25 minutes.
This is a ski resort located on the border of Asturias with Leon, modest in size, but due to the great variety of tracks it has and with its facilities, it can satisfy any skier who boasts. It has a ski area of ??25 km, of which, thanks to the investments made in recent years, 5 km are fully snowed with 82 artificial snow cannons. This will allow you to take the ski courses for the White weeks during the entire opening period of the season.
These two mentioned ski resorts are ideal for all those schools or institutions that travel from the most western area of ??the peninsula, avoiding great trips of hundreds of kilometers towards the Pyrenees, always more saturated with skiers.
