Today was a lovely day back at the camp. Breakfast woke us up properly and we started off with the DUEL OF THE DAY. This is when two classes go head to head in a battle devised by the English teachers. On Tuesday it was a race to see which class could carry a Ping Pong ball on a piece of paper held flat between two people back and forth. Today it was wheelbarrow races, and it was very exciting! Billy’s class beat Cassie’s by a nose. We went straight to English class after that. My class sang the “Hello, How Are You” song that we are learning:
Hello, hello, hello, how are you?
Hello, hello, hello, how are you?
I’m good! I’m great! I’m wonderful!
I’m good! I’m great! I’m wonderful!
Hello, hello, hello, how are you?
Hello, hello, hello, how are you?
I’m tired! I’m hungry! I’m not so good!
I’m tired! I’m hungry! I’m not so good!
Hello, hello, hello, how are you?
Hello, hello, hello, how are youuuuu?
We know almost all the words now! Then we talked about the days of the week and wrote a few sentences in our diaries about our trip to Astoria yesterday. We have great memories and lovely handwriting! Later we pulled out a summer-themed word search and went to town: we found so many words, and practiced spelling them on the board.
After a quick break for snack, we trekked up to the football field and began a rousing stretching session, lead by Laura. We repeated an old favourite, Ships and Sailors, and then played a very funny version of Musical Chairs: instead of chairs, we had a circle of campers on the ground, and when the music stopped, you had to sit on the campers’ laps! If there weren’t any free legs, you were O-U-T, out! Everyone had a fantastic attitude during the games, and participated really well. After a fun game of Freeze Tag and Statues (who knew this camp was full of so many good dancers???), we ended with a round of yoga. Everyone got into it and all the campers were quiet and focused. Very impressive!
We had a nice lunch of soup and tortilla and enjoyed some free time, where the kids got to buy some sweets from the “Candy Shop” and sat on the grass or played games like badminton and frisbee.
Back to English class to prep for the English Fair! My class created some beauuutiful posters explaining our activity, including a map and a sign-in sheet. The kids are super enthusiastic for Saturday and want to be involved in every aspect of the activity. I hope the parents can match their energy! It’s going to be a great day.
Up at the pool after class, we played frisbee, football, badminton, and swam around to our hearts’ content. It was a beautiful afternoon, very sunny but breezy. The monitors and the teachers jumped into the water as well, and we had a silly time splashing and swimming with the kids.
All in all, a full day! Tomorrow we’re going on a brief excursion to ride horses, rock climb, and explore caves. I’m excited!
