Today we journeyed outside of camp into the historical town of Astorga. This town is a famous pit stop for the pilgrims doing the Camino de Santigao. The bus dropped us off 2 kilometers outside of town where we walked a trail on the Camino. Arriving into town, we first visited the Palacio Episcopal, a beautiful building built by Gaudi. The students walked through the building and admired some of the art work inside. After, we walked a short way to the Museo Romano (Roman Museum) which originally formed part of a Roman Forum. After recieving a guided tour, the students filled out a short scavenger hunt based off of the artifacts of the museum. By this time everyone was ready for lunch and we walked to a nice shady park for a picnic. Last but not least, we went to the most anticipated place in all of Astorga, the museum of chocolate! The students had a nice guided tour about the history of cacao. They tried a few samples of chocolate and bought the flavors that they liked for lovely gifts for their families. It was a very eventful day.
