What a day! The busses picked us up bright and early from camp and we drove to ASTORGA, singing and laughing all the way. Getting off the bus with the city in the near distance, we trekked a bit of the famous Camino de Santiago, enjoying the landscape of green fields and the towers of the city hall. When we finally arrived in Astorga we split into groups and began to explore! Some of us went first to the Roman Museum, where we learned a lot about ancient Roman buildings and the history of Astorga. Everyone was very impressed by the Gaudi Palace! It was full of beautiful religious sculptures and stained glass windows, tombstones and statues. We paused at a big open park for a rest and some well-deserved lunch. With our bellies full and our spirits refreshed we hit the road and went to the much-anticipated Chocolate Museum! There we learned about the story of chocolate, how it used to be made and how it is made today in Astorga. The best part was the museum store, where we all lined up, eager to buy a bit of those storied bars of chocolate. They were so delicious!
The bus ride back to camp felt shorter, as return trips always do, and we tumbled off the bus and to our cabins, tired and happy. Looking forward to a normal schedule tomorrow, some English Fair prep, and of course pool time!
