Day trip to Astorga!!! Today we had an exciting day trip to a nearby city. We started with walking 3km of the Camino de Santiago - a great acheivement for the kids. Today we journeyed outside of camp into the historical town of Astorga. This town is a famous pit stop for the pilgrims doing the Camino de Santigao. The bus dropped us off 2 kilometers outside of town where we walked a trail on the Camino. Arriving into town, we first visited the Palacio Episcopal, a beautiful building built by Gaudi. Today we went on an excursion to Astorga! We left the camp around 9:30 in the morning and arrived in Astorga at about 10:30. What a day! The busses picked us up bright and early from camp and we drove to ASTORGA, singing and laughing all the way. Today was an early start to a long and eventful day. We left early this morning to head to Astorga. Astorga is a very picturesque town with a lot of amazing history. It also is where part of the Camino de Santiago passes so we thought we'd have a little taste of our own Camino. Day 2 began with a morning nature walk! We learned some new vocabulary in our English class: moss, bark, stick, rocks and set out to see what we could find. Kids were encouraged to pick up a few flowers or leaves from trees. Pablo even found a giant pine cone! My students and I went on a nature walk today! Right behind the camp theres a beautiful trail that leads into the forest. The kids did a scavenger hunt and had to find things like: pine cones, muchrooms, fruits, etc. After class, we took them into the game room where they learned a typical Scottish dance from our Scottish councelor, Morag. The children learned the dance really quickly and had a lot of fun doing it....
My class (6-8 year-olds), had a great first day! Everyone was very enthusiastic about English class, where we learned each others' names, our ages, and our birthdays. We talked about all the fun stuff we are going to do at camp this week. Later on we enjoyed some active games up by the pool, like Ships and Sailors, and Birdie in a Tree. Today we spent a long and happy time learning traditional Scottish line dancing from Morag, our resident Scot! The students are such great dancers! We also went on a nice walk up into the hills behind camp. It was a beautiful hot day and our campers were Nature Explorers, collecting flowers and rocks and identifying lots of different insects.
